Going to see Angels & Demons today, I realized that this was the first time I have ever finished reading a book the day before going to see the movie. I thought it would be great to have the book so fresh in my mind before going to see the movie form of that book. I don’t recommend it. Especially for a book such as Angels & Demons, which is very detailed and fast-paced….and long.
Without spoiling anything, the movie speeds through the beginning of the book very quickly making me go crazy with “Wow, that’s completely different than the book!” or “What happened to ______?” In retrospect, it makes perfect sense why they do this in the movie. A movie is a different medium and they simply didn’t have time to go into the depth that Dan Brown did in the book.
They did change quite a bit in the movie. I don’t want to ruin any of it for those that haven’t seen it, but overall it was a very good movie! A whole lot better than The Da Vinci Code. But then again, they had a much better book to work from…
My recommendation if you haven’t seen the movie or read the book would probably be to see the movie first. Then read the book. By reading the book, you get a whole lot more character depth. Some things that they skipped over in the movie pretty quickly are explained in detail in the book. Things make a lot more sense when you realize why some of the characters are doing what they’re doing. It puts some method to the “madness”. Enjoy!
