With the recent release of Maya 2010, I’ve spent even more time playing around with Maya. While I was at it, I figured I’d test my metal shaders in Maya 2010. And while I was at that, I figured I might as well update it. I’ve had a few requests for compatibility with Maya 2008, so I went ahead and moved all the shaders over to a mia_material_x, which is compatible with Maya 2008+. However, I don’t have Maya 2008 installed so I haven’t tested that. If anyone has issues with that, let me know.
For those that are still looking for the ability to render in passes, you will need to upgrade the metal shaders to mia_material_x_passes. That is extremely easy to do. Select the shader material and open up the attribute editor. Look for an attribute option called “Upgrade Shader”. Twirl that down and there is a button to push. Simply push that button and Maya will generate a new mia_material_x_passes shader with all the same settings. So its the best of both worlds!
As usual, let me know if you have any comments or suggestions. You can view the entire version history over at Highend3d. Thanks!

These shaders are amazing and I’d really like to use/play with a few of them in my scene, but the files don’t want to open for me. Once it’s downloaded, I open the scene and it gives me a rejection that says: “Errors have occurred while reading this scene that may result in data loss. Please check the Script Editor for details.” Any ideas how I can get the file to work? Thanks!
Hi AJ! If you’re using a version older than Maya 2010, you have to go to the Open Options (File > Open Option Box) and check the “Ignore Version” box.
